Food Price Increase worries Consumers

Dear Editor,
I refer to your article of “Food Price Increase worries Consumers” published in The Malay Mail Newspapers dated 28 January 2011. The article says the prices of meals at stalls and coffee shops will be increase after Chinese New Year.
As a consumer, I will always observing some hawkers or traders which I bought the food from like to increase their food prices without any notice. Even Chinese New Year is one week ahead, these hawkers and traders started increasing their meals price with reason of festival. Sometimes these hawkers increased the price because of weather season. The reason is, food stock like chicken, vegetables, seafood and meat are difficult to get at rainy season. These hawkers and traders are taking advantages towards consumers.
There are some foods traders did not put the price tag on food sold. Excessive price increase is not comparable with the food taste and is not logic. So consumer need to think twice to eat outside or bring food from home.
I hope that consumer who has this problem to stop buying food from hawkers or traders who sell at a high price. Do query hawkers or traders who didn’t put up the tag as certain of them make a lump sum price without calculate?  Consumers also may report to Kuala Lumpur Hawkers and Petty Traders if those hawkers or traders are refuse to put up the price tag. I hope with my opinion consumer may open their eyes and notice their rights.

Sincerely,
John Scarsl
